unexpected things

I was once at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. They have a small section devoted to Doc Ricketts a marine biologist from the 1930's, a friend of John Steinbeck who included him in "Cannery Row". While I stood there trying to take it all in, a flurry of activity swirled around the corner. An elementary school class rushed in in mass and came to an abrupt halt. In awe one boy said "what's that?"
One girl standing next to him said, "you're such a dodo" and strode up to the typewriter, an old Underwood higher than it was wide, and typed, "superman what are you to do now". Somewhere behind me I heard the "click" of a digital camera.

High School Latin Class

High School Latin Class
is no more.
It has gone the way of
The Dodo Bird
The Typewriter
Developing Film
And Public Pay Phones.

As true as standing still
is not possible,
My Sovereign State
depends upon those
who still
Recognize such Antiquities.
